Annet Negesa is part of the 16 man contingent that arrived in Kampala from Kween today and will be heading to Cape Town for the Africa Cross Country Championships on Thursday. This comes after being crowned female athlete of the year by both UAF and USPA.
She made it to this event after her 26:22.4 at Jinja National Cross Country 8km last month. The female athlete of the year’s coach, Raphael Kasaija says the 19-year old will not bear fruit following her recent preparations.
The Maputo 800m All Africa gold medalist joined the camp in Kween about a fortnight back and her coach thinks the altitude factor will affect her performance.
“She has all along been preparing for Olympics but I think the conditions in Kween will influence Cape Town display especially the altitude factor” said Kasaija. He also hinted on fatigue as a growing hindrance in her London preparations.
Negesa featured at the World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbria but unfortunately finished 66th with 27:56 though Uganda finished 3rd. Negesa holds two national records, all she got last year in May; 2:00.22 and 4:09.17 in the 800m and 1500m respectively.
