Local body Uganda Lawn Tennis Association has set April 9-14 for the prestigious Castle Lite Uganda Open tennis championship at Lugogo Tennis Center.
“The Uganda Open swings into action on April 9 and we shall reveal details of the tournament at press conference at a date yet to be announced,” Cedric Babu, the ULTA boss revealed to Kawowo sports. “This year’s event is going to be bigger than last year and more interesting.”
Duncan Mugabe, will be seeking his third title at the Uganda Open, but will have to be wary of the foreign legion that is expected to seek the cash prizes at Lugogo. ULTA and its sponsors are yet to reveal the total amount of money to be sunk into the week long tournament.
The Ugandan ace player is coming off a surprise loss against Zambia’s Edgar Kazembe, who stunned him at the Real Insurance Kenya Open beating him 6-3, 3-6, 7-6. It was Mugabe’s first major tournament in the new year since recovering from a motor bike accident late last year.
