USL Match Preview: Victors Vs Bunamwaya

WHEN: Friday 23th March 2012, 16:30 Hrs

WHERE: Kakindu Stadium, Jinja

Bunamwaya SC can revive their chances of league glory this season if they can negotiate their way past Victors FC in a mouth watering encounter this Friday at Kakindu.

Victors FC Team news:

Sula Kato’s side are not doing well at the moment. With three matches into the second round, they have only gathered four points out of the possible nine at home with a defeat at the

hands of Masaka LC, a win over late entrants Hoima-Busia FC and a draw in the opener against Waters FC. Perhaps a spirited performance against Bunamwaya will turn their fortunes around.

Victors are not easy prey and are motivated by their outstanding record against the 2010 League Champions

having beaten them at Kakindu in the corresponding fixture last season with Yudah Mugalu’s last minute header

condemning his former employers to a 2-1 defeat, and drawing 1-1 at Nakivubo in the return leg. The same

dominance continued this season when Victors walked into Bunamwaya’s new found home in Buikwe and registered a draw. It is only Victors and Utoda that have managed to halt the impressive home record of Bunamwaya that has seen all other visiting teams loose at the hands of their host.

The Jinja based side will however be with out Hassan Mubiru who is officially retiring from the game on Sunday. Isaac Katwere, Mulindwa Julius and experienced defender Lugolobi Robert will be the pillar upon which the hosts’ defense will be founded. Eric Ssebuguzi will lead the hunt for goals while Tanzanian import Abdallah Muhammad will patrol the midfield.

One to watch: Eric Ssebuguzi has been less impressive this season but still remains the most dangerous man in this Visitors side and has bagged a lot of crucial goals for them. Bunamwaya rear guard must be alert to avoid the damage he may inflict on them.

Bunamwaya Team news:

Bunamwaya has enjoyed an impressive run in the second round winning all the last three league games, scoring ten goals against one but still trail four points behind run away leaders URA FC who also have a game in hand. Coach Edward Golola will not be taking anything for granted but will have to measure up his title credentials against a Victors side that is undergoing revival and have tormented his side in the past.

Speaking to kawowo sports ahead of the tie, Golola said “All my players are in good shape and have continued to impress in training making the team extremely competitive. We have worked really hard and we shall continue to improve in every game. It will be a stunning test at Kakindu but we are also equal to the task”.

Hamza Muwonge is expexted to retain his position in goal. U-20 international Nicholas Wadada returns from national duty and is expected to start. Simon Sserunkuma is also back after suffering from malaria a few weeks back and is expected to start in a front three man attack that includes Tonny Odur and live wire Luwagga Kizito.

One to watch: Robert Kimuli has been the unsung hero yet the most hardworking and creative force in the midfield, a kingpin. The inspirational captain has provided attacking options and effectively given cover to the back line. A quick thinker, aggressive, disciplined and also has an eye for goal. He was the club second top scorer in the previous campaign.

PREDICTION

The hosts have a good record against their opponents and will have home advantage as an intangible assert but Bunamwaya SC is the team to beat in the league at the moment and it remains to be seen whether any one can stop them. Victors have struggled in search for goals and you can’t win a game of football when lethargic at the front. Records have always been shattered in football and I expect the visitors to end their bad run against their hosts tomorrow.

VICTORS FC 1-3 BUNAMWAYA SC. What is your prediction?
