Many may not know that for any sport to prosper, the ultimate stage to invest or lobby is the youth category. As part of Uganda Cricket Association’s development plan, mini-cricket for primary schools and coaching clinics for secondary schools are the ways UCA is looking out on the young generation.
The mini cricket is on in Kamuli, Kasese, Kabale and Jinja districts. With many schools which have shown interest. John Trust Mayeku, UCA’s administrative officer is optimistic the sport is riding on a good course. “UCA is obliged to have these youth programmes and all these structures are currently funded by the UCA budget” he said.
Coaches Grace Mutyagaba and Eric Wandera have been in western Uganda
working with secondary schools in Mbarara, Kasese and Fort Portal. Weekly coaching sessions for schools in Central and Jinja continue to be conducted by the three development officers.
