National Insurance Cooperation (NIC) kicked off the search for their fifteenth East African Netball Championships on a high note when they registered a 49-42 win against Ministry of Information and Communication (Moic) from Kenya.

NIC’s Peace Proscovia inspired the defending champions with her 32 goals though she was matched by Moic’s Bridget Wanzala. “It was a hard fought win because we usually win teams by 15, 20 points,” noted NIC’s captain Desire Birungi Obua.

“Everyone come targeting the defending champions but we always train harder cause we don’t plan to give it want just like that,” she added.

In the other game involving a Ugandan team, UPDF women managed to overcome Kenya’s Malaha 57-23. UPDF’s Anette Nakiwu after shooting 38 goals is leading the top scorer’s chats.
