An estimated six thousand runners are expected to raise close to sixty million shillings for charity in the fourth edition of the popular Hared Source of the Nile marathon slated for May 27 in Jinja.
Organisers of the annual event this year are set to raise funds that will be earmarked to Saint Francis Medical Hospital, Mbiko, Jinja and treatment and care for over 9,000 HIV/AIDS patients. The hospital was identified due to its tireless effort demonstrated by that worthy cause since its inception in 1998.
“Our aim this year is to raise 60 million for the treatment and care of 9,000 HIV/AIDS patients and also to complete the maternity ward at Saint Francis Medical Hospital,” Ben Akamu, the chairman of the organising committee of the marathon said at the launch of the marathon this morning at the Uganda Athletics Federation head office today on Entebbe road. “We are expecting close to 6,000 athletes from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi for this event that has grown in stature.”
This year’s theme for the event is “Run and Save a Life”.
