UGU selects eight for Zone IV championships

Eight amateur golfers players will be given the opportunity of showing national pride when they represent Uganda at the Africa Zone IV golf championships in Lilongwe,Malawi from April 24-27.

The side was named by the Uganda Golf Union yesterday and is made up of Phillip Kasozi,Abbey Bagalana,Willy Kitata,Adolf Muhumuza,Gideon Kagyenzi,Ronaldo Rugumayo other members on the team include Patrick Mugisha and Ronald Otile. The eight man team was selected after a rigorous round of qualifiers prior to the final selection.

Uganda will have to over come last year’s winners South Africa, the hosts Malawi, Tanzania, regional giants Kenya,Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Namibia and possibly Mauritius and Rwanda.

Team Uganda pulled out of last year’s at the eleventh hour dealting a blow to the team the Union had assembled

after under

going four weeks of training. Golfing experts and the golfing fraternity felt the nation would have done well against their usual rivals Kenya.

Uganda finished eighth in their last outing in 2010 and are hoping to do better this year.
