
Professional boxing will not be the same under popular boxing promotional company Big Strikers after landing boxing equipment worth $50,000(sh124m) from their sponsors Power Horse.
The hand over ceremony was delivered to Big Strikers promotions yesterday at Hotel Africana, in the presence of Uganda Boxing Union president Godfrey Kiwanuka and Julius Kavuma Kabenge, the CEO of the company others included Ernest Matovu, a director and the managing director of Power Horse Godfrey Mukasa.
“We are grateful to receive this sponsorship and believe it will go in a long way of uplifting the standard and quality of professional boxing,” Geofrey Kasule, promoter of Big Strikers said. “This delivery has set tone for us to promote a several national titles then later an African title fight next year.”
The equipment includes, boxing gloves, robs,boxing pads,head guards,wraps,trucks,boots,gum shields,attire for ring card girls and a boxing ring that will be shipped into the country soon.
“This equipment is going to take professional boxing to another level and with this we are glad to be part of Big Strikers who have the capacity to take this sport to greater heights like they have done before,” Mukasa, the managing director of Power House said. “This is just the beginning of much more to come from us.”
According to Big Strikers they intend to have their fighters fighting for fights less than 1 million shillings. They previously promoted Badru Lusambya, but fell out after failing to meet certain obligations which caused a rift together with Uganda Professional Boxing Commission thus opting to join the break away boxing body Uganda Boxing Union.
