Though games had to be delayed because of the rain, that didn’t stop Serie A newcomers Old Kampala Volleyball club (OKVC) to defeat Uganda Christian University (UCU) 3-1. OKVC started the game with a low tempo as they made lots of school boy mistakes. It was the likes of Simon Golola, Abbey Ortega and Arnold Ampaire who carried the spirits of the serie B champions.
“We kicked up our rhythm, our offence was much better and that’s how we were able to give them a run for their money,” Golola told kawowo sports. Going two sets up UCU bounced back and pulled one back 21-25 but failed to level matter as OKVC ran off with the fourth 25-21. For a team
that has won 2/3 games played so far OKVC need only to maintain that form t ovoid relegation according to captain Golola.
“We are looking good so far considering we are new in Serie A, if we keep it we will be able to avoid relegation,” he said. They have won against KCC and UCU and registered a defeat against Ndejje. UCU haven’t trained together as a team only nine players have been turning up at training for the past three months
UCU captain Innocent Asinzu was sure why the team is putting on such a poor show. “Today I don’t know what happened, either the weather or I don’t know. We haven’t rained as a team for long and I believe it’s affecting our performance,” said Asinzu. 14 players against Old Kampala is the biggest bench this team has had.
