
National volleyball league defending champions Nkumba University encounter of the day against KCC failed to end because of poor lighting. Both teams were tied at 2 all though Nkumba looked like they would be worthy champions.
After losing the first quarter 25-17, the three time champions bounced back and leveled matters 32-25 before taking the third set 18-25. It was in the fourth set when KCC fought back after Nkumba’s setter Bitijuma Luwedde’s inexperience was unearthed.
Though Nkumba caoch Tony Lakony continues to insist how the defending champions still has a hot to learn. “It’s a very immature team that has a lot to learn,” Lakony told kawowo sports. “If I had two or three mature players I would have won this game 3-1,” he added.
KCC who have just acquired Sharon Pajije, Vivienne Aketch, Prosy Allabo and Jackie Achieng from Nkumba looked ordinary as the young side made them sweat to earn points. “We didn’t give them (Nkumba) respect and it almost cost us,” said Pajije.
The game is yet to be rescheduled but tis a tie Pajije is confident KCC will be have a better performance. “Now that we have tasted them am sure it will be a different story when we re-meet.” Nkumba cruised past Nemo stars 3-0 in their earlier fixture.
