Cranes internationals Timothy Batabaire and Walusimbi Godfrey named Ambassadors.
62 secondary schools are camping at Rock High School in a bid to vie for the national coca cola schools championships. Defending champions St. Mary’s Kitende are favorites to win the trophy they won last year after beating rivals Standard High, Zzana 1-0 in the finals played in Arua.
However, they will have to face a big test as traditional
giants Kibuli S.S and Old Kampala Secondary School are also part of the tournament that kicks off tomorrow (Tuesday) in Tororo.
Having changed the qualification system from district to regional level, its bound to be a more competitive tournament than in recent years and the high score lines in the past are set to be minimal this time.
In a bid to celebrate 20 years of the tournament that has produced a lot of talent for the top flight super league and the national teams, the organizers have named two Cranes defenders in Timothy Batabaire and Godfrey Walusimbi as ambassadors for the edition. The duo is set to be in Tororo for the tournament to inspire the burgeoning talents that are taking part in the competition.
Coca Cola promotions manger Kennedy Mutenyo confirmed the developments and added that “A lot of star footballers have gone through the Copa system and many more are to come,” Mutenyo said while launching the tournament on Friday. “Coaches and players should look at this as a stepping stone to take them to greater heights,” he concluded.
