Sekyaaya retains London dream

Ugandan weightlifter, Charles Sekyaaya is optimistic that he can raise decent results in this year’s Olympics. Sekyaaya, a bronze medalist at the 2008 Commonwealth youth games in Pune, India expects a lot of competition at the London games. “If I tell you that I will secure a medal, then that’s a lie. All I can say is that I will compete to the best” he said.

The USA based star missed the podium at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. “It was great for me though results did not come my way.” Sekyaaya who won the senior Africa Olympic weightlifting event in Nairobi that got him the journalists’ vote for last month’s USPA award.

The 20-year old also clinched two gold medals at the inaugural All Africa Youth games held in Morocco two years ago. Mubarak Kivumbi also represented Uganda in Beijing four years ago but he did not make an impression.
