Uganda’s national golf team finished sixth out of ten nations in the prestigious Zone IV golf championships,but the Uganda Golf Union will have to invest heavily on exposing their golfers to more international tournaments if they are to claim a major continental golf tournament.
“I am happy with the way me and my team-mates played however we would have finished in a much higher position if we got more and more exposure on the African continent,” Willy Kitata, one of the golfers on team
Uganda said. “The experience for us was good and we had ample prepartions all I can say is that the teams that we face here where all strong.”
Uganda struggled on the final day of action finishing with three and half points in the final singles games with a overall total score of 12.5 points to place them at sixth position in this ten nation tournament that was won by South Africa for a record third time in a row.
This year’s performance was a much improved one than in 2010 where they finished eighth Uganda’s team was made up of Ronald Otile(new cap),Philip Kasozi, captain, Ronald Rugumayo,Abbey Bagalana,Patrick Mugisha,Adolf Muhumuza and Willy Kitata, the team was coached by Deo Akope, while the head of delegation was UGU vice president Kiryowa Kiwanuka together with Union secretary Johnson Omollo.
