Ogwete hatrick spurs Rwenzori as Victoria struggle

A good performance in the first half by Dimension Data Rwenzori was all the Ugandan rugby franchise needed to hold onto their 43-31 win against Munyansi Buffaloes in the Bamburi Super series this afternoon. 33-10 was the score at half time as Joseph Ogwete (2), Justine Kimono and Timothy Kabonero all touched down.

Anthony Kinene’s boots converted 3 of his four conversions. George Oduor converted a penalty and later a conversion for the vistors that came when Bramuel Shikanda touched down. Rwenzori started the second half from where they left the second when Ogwete completed his hatrick, Marvin Odong had scored at the beginning of half time.

But Buffaloes’ coach Arthur Shikwe seemed not to leave Uganda without a fight as his troops were the complete opposite in the second half. Mike Logono pulled a try back before Shikanda just like Ogwete, completed his hatrick.
Not like Kinene, Oduor was on hand to finish the kicking task as all his four conversions were successful.

Across the border in Nairobi, KCB Victoria was taken to school by defending champions Rhinos 34-6 as Phillip Wokorach’s two penalties weren’t enough to give them a decent start. The tournament continues next weekend in Uganda and Nairobi.
