The Rugby Cranes wait of six years to win the Elgon Cup couldn’t go unnoticed by the Uganda Sports Press Association as they voted Yayiro Kasasa’s men sports personality of the month of April. The Cranes collected 710 votes to beat boxer Joseph Lubega who only managed 575. Uganda beat Kenya 19-17 over the two legs to claim the Elgon Cup only for the second time in the country’s history.
After winning 19-5 in Kampala through tries by Romano Ogwal and Justin Kimono and Anthony Kinene’s three penalties. Then losing the return let 12-0, but difference was in the points collected back home. Runner-up, Lubega ‘Joey Vegas’, won the Africa Boxing Union (ABU) light/heavyweight title at the expense of Egyptian Hany Atiyoin in Cairo, Egypt.
