The 2012 National Chess League is set to commence on May 27 at Hotel Africana starting with defending champions, Mulago Kings likely to face a stiff challenge from last year’s runners up City Chess Club.
A record 18 Clubs, two more than in last year’s league have so far expressed interest in participating in the National Chess League that will for the second year running be played in one central location.
The two new clubs are Makerere University Business School (MUBS) Chess Club and Entebbe Chess Club.
Two rounds will be played every playing day (one in the morning and the other in the afternoon) with games being played every fortnight in a round robin starting on May 27.
Each Club is required to field five players with the player on the fifth Board having to be a female player.
The Other Clubs expected to participate in the National Chess League are Uganda Chess Academy, Makindye Chess Club, Mulago Queens Chess Club, Mulago Pawns Chess Club, Aviation Chess Club, Enkabi Chess Club, Bank of Uganda Chess Club, Barclays Chess Club, Kireka Chess Club, Mulago Knights Chess Club, Mengo Chess Club, Makerere University Chess Club and UCU Mukono Knights.
