National golfers dominated the opening day of action at the two day Eskom Golf Open 2012 at the par 72 Jinja golf course today in this prestigious Uganda Golf Union event that has attracted 100 golfers from various clubs in the country. Toro’s Adolf Muhumuza, shot the first salvo to take an early lead scoring 37 and 36 with a gross score of 73 going into tomorow’s second day of action with his nose infront. “I am disappointed with scores going into tomorrow’s action I should have had a bigger lead if it wasn’t for my poor putting,” Muhumuza lamented. “I hope I can hold my nerve and retain my lead all the way.”
Jinja born Abbey Bagalana followed closely with a score of 40 and 34 to end day one of action with a gross score of 74 while dredlocked golfer Ronnie King was a close third with a gross of 76 after playing 39 and 36 on the front and back nine on this very challenging course. Toro’s Ronald Otile and Ronald Rugumayo finished with gross scoresof 77 each on a day when they had to battle on a course that was wet after a heavy down pour. Godfrey Mande leads 13 professionals going into tomorrow’s action with a score of 73 gross and is followed by Dennis Anguyo and George Olayo with similar scores. Six million is up for grabs for the professionals who started their action on Friday.
