Rhinos beat Rwenzori to retain Bamburi Rugby title

Final: Rhinos 25-14 Rwenzori
In Kampala, all fingers were crossed that perhaps Ugandan franchise side, Dimension Data Rwenzori would clinch a maiden title but it was not the result as Kenyan side, UAP Rhinos successfully defended their Bamburi Rugby Super Series crown at RFUEA grounds, Nairobi on this evening. Rhinos, who were playing their sixth straight final led the game 10-7 by the break.
Rwenzori’s Steven Ogwete returned with a try and Kinene kicked in (conversion), the score read 14-10 in Rwenzori’s control. But Rhinos’ Dennis Muhanji scored another try and Eden Agero missed the conversion and the side was back into the lead on 15-14. Rwenzori’s Kimono made a mistake that gave Victor Sudi score a try in the corner to win 25-14.
Rwenzori had beat Rhinos 17-15 in their first encounter at Kampala ground in the pool stages of this edition but did not have the final shot at the trophy.
Even with Edmond Tumusiime starting, the side failed to return home with the top cash prize. On the positive, good work done. Rwenzori had finished third in the past edition, a commendable improvement.
