Wambwa Primary school were crowned champions of this year’s Mbale Tag Rugby tour after a narrow 4-3 final score Namatala Primary School at the new Mbale Elephants Rugby club in Busamaga. From the onset in their pool A, Wambwa looked to stand out. They beat Bumageni 6-3, Nabumali 8-4 before surprising Namatali the sports silverware home school of Mbale town.
Namatala who came second beat Bumageni 6-5 and Nabumali 5-4 with superb command from Captain Zahara Nakitende. In the plate final Police dominated thrashing Maluku, Mayor and Wanambwa while in the bowl category Busamaga Army Barracks School toppled Nashibiso, Fairway and Mutoto. Tag Rugby Trust Chairman Martin Hansford was impressed with the quality of the sport at the event.

“The long week had so many brilliant performances from all the sixteen schools.” he said. He sighted excellent play from the new entrants Mayor, Bujoroto and St. Michael.

Hansford also urged the Elephants team to involve the Mbale teachers Tag Rugby committee in club activities to expand on linkage of player numbers as well as the community.

The Tag Rugby tour continues on Monday 4th June 2012 in Kampala with England Counties players/volunteers doing charity work at Nakasero primary, Faith and Hope orphanage, Banunule Orphanage and other club centers.

The tour group will have a full day of charity work and Tag coaching on Wednesday 6th June at the Jinja Tag Rugby centers and an afternoon tournament at Jinja Nile Rugby club. It will climax with an England counties tournament on the 10th June at the Sheraton Gardens Kampala.
