Mary Hill and Kitende shine at National Junior Volleyball Championship

Mary Hill from Mbarara and St. Mary’s Kitende emerged winners in the girls’ and boys’ groups at the fourth edition of the National Junior Volleyball championship held at London College of St Lawrence in Maya. The event drew tight games with a total of 32 teams in the boys and girls categories taking part in the two day event.
This year’s edition was quite competitive in both genders but Trust High school girls ensured they re-do their winning ways defending their title after stopping a hard fighting Mary Hill from Mbarara in the final 2-1 22-25, 25-11, 25-22. The first set was quite tricky for Trust high but they put their act together to garner away the next two sets to victory.
In the boys category it was an act of switching positions with the defending champions St. Mary’s Kitende relinquishing the top spot to last year’s runner up Kinaawa Kawempe in two tough sets (2-0) 28-26, 25-19. The Kitende boys seemed inclined to retain the crown but Kinaawa lads were not about to let it slip again and they recovered from a near shocker during the first set take it all in straight but exacting sets.
Mr. Michael Adoa, the Vice Principal of St Lawrence schools and colleges, presided over the awards ceremony. The tournament was sponsored by Coca Cola under its Dasani water brand alongside telecommunication company, MTN.
