
Oneonta and White Angels have won the 2012 Uganda Lacrosse league that concluded last weekend with women’s champion beating Doves 6-2 at Makerere University Business School, sports ground in Nakawa.
In the other game that was a formality saw Panthers beat Strykers 2-0 with Oneonta just waiting to be crowned league champions in a season that saw them dominate for most of the season.
Richard Akena, from the league champions was the top defender of the season leading with defensive line five wins out of eight games and letting through the least goals in a water tight defense this season.
The best goalkeeper for the season was Stephen Otieno Strykers while Oneonta’s captain Patrick Oriana was the best midfielder averaging almost 70 percent face-off wins, four goals and five assists.
The best attacker was Strykers forward Kenneth Kasule with eight goals and two assists. He also was the top scorer in the league with 11 goals while Phillip Ssebunya of Warriaz Club was second topscorer with nine goals in eight games,averaging a goal each game from midfield.
Oriana capped a remarkable season for himself when he was voted the most valuable player and player of the year averaging 68 percent face-off wins per game,bagging four goals in eight games,holding five assists and leading his team to five wins out of eight games. He was also commended for exceptional leadership both on and off the pitch.
Dorothy Nakato, from White Angels was voted the women’s MVP and Player of the Year she was the top scorer with 11 goals and four assists.
