
Footballer Robert ssentongo, Rugby Player Marvin Odong, Athlete Janet Achola, Rally Driver Duncan Mubiru and Golfer Adolf Muhumuza are the nominees by Uganda Sports Press Association for the sports personality for the month of May.
Ssentogo scored the winner as his club URA beat Bunnamwaya to win the bell Uganda cup in Pece, Gulu district. Ssentongo is also the top scorer in the league with 15goals -of which are in the month of May, 2012 –Bunamwaya in Uganda Cup final, Villa, Hoima-Busia and brace against Water FC in super league.
while Marvin Odong is recognized for his consistent tries in the just concluded Bamburi Super series.
He scored a try each against Buffaloes, Rhinos, Victoria and against Cheetahs, though he wasn’t good enough to guide Rwenzori to their first victory in their maiden final.
Achola set a national record in 1500metrres competition after posting a time of 4 minutes and 05.52 seconds at the Fanny Blankers-Koen Games in Hengelo, Netherlands. With the result she also qualified her for the London Olympics.
In 2010 Negesa broke Achola’s record of 4:09.51 when she made 4:09.17 at the Africa Junior championships in Gaborone last year.
Mubiru powered his Subaru N14 to victory in Masaka beating Ronald Ssebuguzi in Mitsubishi Evo9 by one minute and 54 seconds. It was Mubiru’s first National Rally Championship win.
Mubiru now leads the standings with 215 points, 20 ahead of Rwandan Christakis Fitidis with three races to go.
19 year old Muhumuza won two-day Eskom Golf Open at par 72 Jinja golf course.
