Umeme offer UOC Olympic 10000 US dollars enhancement

The Uganda Olympic Committee will have somewhere to start when it comes to footing the London Olympics bills. UOC received a 10000 US dollars (Shs.25 million) funding from leading electricity company, Umeme. The fund is basically to fund for the air tickets that will take the Ugandan contingent to London.

Airways to enure that the seats are booked on time. The games which are just a month away will take place from July 27 – August 12 and already 13 Ugandan athletes have confirmed participation. They will take part in athletics and swimming.

UOC is seeking to raise more USh200m to faciliate the country’s representation at the games. UOC faced turmoil during Rogers Ddungu’s last days last minute preparations will be vital for Uganda, one of the countries set to take part in the London games.
Uganda last reached the podium after Davis Kamoga’s stellar finish in the 400m to scoop bronze at the Atlanta Games in 1996. From then on, medals have been a mystery. Moses Ndiema Kipsiro and Stephen Kiprotich are the country’s greatest hopes in this year’s edition of the games.
Kipsiro narrowly missed bronze four years ago in the 5000m at the Beijing Games.
