Lugogo teenager and the tournament outsider David Oringa, stormed the final of the Castle Lite Uganda Tennis Open at Lugogo tennis center this afternoon after beating his club mate Robert Buyinza 7-5,6-3 at the Jamal Ramji center court in a game that one hour and fourty minutes. 

Oringa had to battle for every point in the first set where he was broke three times in the set, but his will and determination never let him down claiming the set 7-5 in a gruelling encounter that had most of the tennis fans on their toes for most of the game which had the two club-mates battling in long baseline rallies. He then claimed the next set 6-3 after being broken at 5-3.

“It was a tough game however I kept my tempo and won the game,” Oringa said. “I am looking forward to tomorrow’s final and I really don’t care who I play what is important for me is to win the final however I know its going to be more intense that the semi-final.”

In the all Rwandan affair Mathieu Uwizeyimana beat his compatriot Mubarak Haverimana 7-5,6-1 to book a ticket to the final and set up a Uganda versus Rwanda tussle on center court.

Dutch lady Rennie Killars beat Tanzania’s Athumani Rehema 6-1,6-0 to set up a interesting tie against Kenya’s Caroline Oduor in the ladies final. Oduor beat her country mate Evelyn Otula 6-2,6-2.

The men’s winner will walk away with two million Uganda shillings while the ladies winner takes 1.5 million. The week long tournament has been sponsored by Nile Breweries under their popular brand Castle Lite and Rwenzori Water.
