
After Uganda Cranes’ four star performance against Congo Brazzaville that ensured the side advances to the next round of the 2013 AFCON qualifiers. Kawowo sports’ Ismael Kiyonga was at Namboole and rates the performance of each Ugandan player who took the field in what was The Cranes best performance in recent years. Let’s get started:
DENIS ONYANGO 7.0. The custodian had less to do as Congo
Brazzaville didn’t threaten so much. He was however present whenever called upon though his kicking and distribution were awful at times.
SIMON MASABA 6.5. The experienced URA FC right back did well against danger man Chris Malonga though on many occasions, he was caught off guard. Happy to be part of the clean sheet keeping backline.
HENRY KALUNGI 7.0. Composed and confident when in possession and did things the easy way in defence. His distribution was also fantastic.
ANDREW MWESIGWA 8.0. The skipper led by example today and scored the opener in the 33rd minute. On top of that, the no.14 kept a clean sheet the first in Cranes last four games. A warrior indeed having played under influence of pain killers.
GODFREY WALUSIMBI 7.0. Kept his cool to convert from the spot in the 48th minute to extend Uganda;s lead. He was however wasteful in possession at time and didn’t have a dominant performance like he had last week.
HASSAN WASSWA 8.0. The unsung hero of the day. The midfielder intercepted whichever ball the opponents aimed at the strikers and orchestrated moves from deep. His composure on the ball was also fantastic his tackling brilliant too. Ran the show in the midfield single handedly.
MOSES OLOYA 7.5. The Vietnam based winger played according to Bobby’s instructions. Had a successful dribble completion rate of over 80% and his pace and power troubled the Congolese defence for the entire 90 minutes. Made the assist for Massa’s goal.
MIKE SSERUMAGA 7.0. The midfielder had a silent game tonight and wasted numerous chances from dead balls. He did play his part though as his corner kick resulted into the opener. Withdrawn later from the combative Ochan.
BRIAN UMONY 7.0. Un lucky to miss on the score sheet. The forward however played his part and was the player fouled in the 18 yard box for Godfrey Walusimbi’s penalty strike.
GEOFFREY MASSA 9.0. Man of the match performance from the centre forward. Almost involved in all but one goal. His strike that burst the net will forever stay in the memories of fans. Tireless and accurate in everything he did. Hero of the day. Withdrawn in the closing stages for Musa Mudde.
EMMA OKWI 7.0. He scored a beauty after rounding off the entire Congo backline. Calm and tidy in possession.
