Only three countries from the CECAFA region are still left with an opportunity to make it to the 2013 Nations cup finals in South Africa after the rest failed to make the final round of qualification.

Uganda and Ethiopia had to eliminate Congo Brazzaville and Benin respectively in the first round while Sudan are there by default having appeared at the 2012 edition in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

The Cranes advanced on a 5-3 goal aggregate while Ethiopia salvage a one all in Benin to advance on away goals rule after being held to a goal less draw in Addis Ababa in February. Other Cecafa nations Kenya and Burundi were eliminated on away goals rule; Tanzania lost out on penalties to Mozambique while Rwanda lost 2-0 on aggregate to Nigeria.
