Uganda’s top female athlete Annet Negesa will have to work harder if she is to win the 800m at the 18th edition of the Africa Senior Athletics Championships at the Stade d’Lamite in Porto Novo, Benin.
The current national holder will have to battle South African Caster Semenya in the battle for gold in the games that have gotten underway today.
Semenya looks to add the Olympic gold medal to her 2009 world title and will use the tourney to gauge herself with just a month to the London games.
She is part of the 75-man team, by far the largest at the games going on in West Africa.
Kenyan Eunice Sum, also a London bound star is in better shape compared to Negesa and Semenya.
“My target is to win an African medal before I go to London” Sum told iaaf.org early this week.
Negesa’s confidence and final shot to the finish line is what should help her land down her strong opponents.
