Team Uganda will head to London with an aim of getting the seventh Olympics medal.

The last Ugandan to have stepped onto the podium is sprinter Davis Kamoga at the Atlanta games in 1996. He won bronze in the 400m.

Since then, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004 and the latest Beijing 2008 have unearthed no medal.

In a move to have better displays at the Stratford Olympic Stadium in London, the team is scheduled to

camp and train in Kabale.

According to acting Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) head William Blick, Kabale is full of fortunes to Uganda. John Akii-Bua, a gold medalist in the 400m hurdles in Munich 1972 and Leo Rwabogo, a double medalist at the games all had their preparations in this South Western district of Uganda then.

Rwabogo won bronze in Mexico City 1968 and silver in Munich.

With such rich history, UOC found it the best location for the London preparations.

15 athletes have already made the grade to the summer games with a few more expected to join in the remaing 22 days.
