
US based runner Julius Mutekanga was the first of the 16 Ugandan athletes to arrive at the Olympic village in London. He will take part in the 800m, a race that brings Kenyan David Rudisha and Sudan’s Abubakar Kaki in the spotlight. Mutekanga will prepare for the tough challenge ahead in Birmingham. “He will have a trial race in Birmingham on Saturday” said Daily Monitor’s Mark Namanya who is in London.
Abrahaam Chepkirwok, the last Ugandan to feature in the two lap race didnot exceed the semifinal heat last term at the Bird’s Nest stadium. With now a week to the games, many of the 10490 athletes have started arriving for the 19 day competition. Team Uganda’s Chef de mission Dennis Galabuzi arrived in London, ready to receive the athletes when they touch down next week. The team will reside near the Indian team in the village.
