Ndejje Angels 64-90 DMark Power
A1 Challenge 49-51 KCC Leopards
After sitting out four games, Joseph Ikong was back on the floor to engineer Dmark Powers’ 90-64 win over Ndejje University Angels on Friday night. The forward returned with a bang and made his presence felt as he opened the scoring for Power from downtown on his route to team high 18 points. It did take Power (10-3) a few minutes to settle in. tied at 6 with 6:25 in the first quarter, guard, Ben Komakech (14 points) hit a go ahead jumper that sparked an 11-0 run in 2 minutes and built a double digit lead and power never looked back the remainder of the game.
Power showed urgency and aggressiveness right from tip-off. The defending champions used their traditional game; pressed each and every inbound or side ball as Ikong constantly shouted “press” to his teammates and forced Ndejje to cough up the ball 35 times and swiped 23 steals. Power was quick in transition, passed the ball from outside the arc to draw Angels from the key and constantly found a player behind Ndejje’s defense for an open lay-up.
Power shot quite well on the night, going 9-for-26 on long range shots, 19-for-31 from the line and 22-for-52 from inside. Angels’ abysmal shooting beyond the arc and from the line didn’t help the cause as they went 4-for-13 behind the arc and 8-for-22 on the line. Geoffrey Soro continues to struggle on the line but paced Ndejje with game high 24 points and 14 rebounds and Micheal Opolot added 18 points. Isaac lugudde scored 16 points for Power and big man Isaac Afidra chipped in with 13.
Meanwhile, in the women’s division, KCC Leopards used trips to the foul line late in the fourth quarter to edge out A1 Challenge 51-49 in a game that went to the wire. Leopards hit 8-of-10 free throws in the final 4 minute of the period. KCC’s Flavia Oketcho scored game high 12 points while 3 A1 players scored in double figures, Mariam Birungi 11 points; Liz Kiza 11 points & 11 rebounds and Vickie Ntale scored 10 points.
