Injury couldn’t stop Mercy Tabitha and Andrina Namata from retaining their third Club Pilsner National Beach Volleyball tournament for a third successive year on Sunday at Lido Beach,Entebbe.
On the run to retain their crown Tabitha sustained a knee injury while trying to dig a ball from her
opponents in the process thus landing badly on the sand and get a deep cut on her knee which required medical attention.
The duo went on to win 13-21,21-15,15-6 beating Josephine Namanda/Diana Agaba in a game that took one hour.
“I am over joyed with this win and I thought I wouldn’t complete the game,but my partner gave me the determination and told me to fight on,”Tabitha said. “My opponents also gave me the zeal to labour on to this great win.”
The men’s title was scooped by Hannington Nsubuga and Isaac Omedo who Dickens Okello and Jonathan Akuguzibwe 21-18,18-21-18-15 in a nail-biting final that was witnessed by music stars King Michael and Dr Jose Chameleone who presided over the award ceremony. The one day that is sponsored by Nile Breweries attracted 16 teams.
