Uganda’s three most successful football clubs SC Villa, Express FC and KCC FC are ranked among the top 100 Football clubs in Africa. According to the July rankings by clubworldrankings.com, record league Champions SC Villa is the best ranked team in Uganda in 59th position in Africa, KCC FC is 99th while Express FC occupies the 100th position. However, only SC Villa makes it in the top 1000 in the world in 702nd position. KCC FC and Express FC are ranked 1070 and 1084 in the World respectively.
Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC is the best ranked team in E. Africa in 45th position and 596th in the World followed by Tanzania’s Simba SC in 55th on the continent and 657th in the world. Spanish giants Real Madrid lead the world rankings followed by Barcelona, AC Milan, Bayern Munich and Liverpool in that order. Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United is ranked 8th while Arsenal and Chelsea fail to make the top ten.
Africa’s most ranked side is Al-Ahly of Egypt in 73rd position followed by Zamalek which is ranked 146th. The rankings are based on the club’s history, pedigree, number of trophies won (domestic, regional and continental) and consistency. The top ten ranked clubs in Africa are; Al Ahly (Egypt), Zamalek (Egypt), Esperance Sportive (Tunisia), TP Mazembe (DRC), Asante Kotoko (Ghana), ASEC Mimosas (Ivory Coast), Raja Casablanca (Morocco), Jenous Sportive Kablylie (Algeria), Canon Yaunde (Cameroun) and Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia).
