Coach Asaph Mwebaze Likens Maroons FC to Ajax Amsterdam

Maroons FC Head Coach Asaph Mwebaze has strongly insisted that his club can still cope well in the league despite the departures of three players who have been starters in the team. “Maroons FC is like Dutch’s Ajax Amsterdam. The departure of three players can’t make us fail as we have a strong youth side from which to get replacements”, he told Kawowo Sports.

The three players are skipper Martin Mpuga, forward George Abege who crossed to newly promoted SC Victoria University and midfielder Alex Tuliraba who moved to KCC FC. “It will be hard cope especially the first half of the season but i have no doubt we shall even come back stronger. We are like Ajax Amsterdam. They have sold players like Christian Chivu, Ibrahim Affellay, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ahmed Mido in the past they are still a strong club acknowledged for producing talent in Europe. You will be surprised to see another Abege, Tuliraba and Mpuga at Luzira”, he boasted.

The duo of Mpuga and Abege joined Victoria University for $ 10,000 while Maroons FC pocketed Ugx 12m from big spenders KCC FC for Tuliraba something Mwebaze refers to as good business. “That is good business by Ugandan standards and it’s very difficult to let it pass if you are sure of getting replacements for free”. Asked whether he’ll join the market for players, the ever jolly but tough Coach’s reply was negative. “We have a good academy that produced all those players. Why go to the market? The reason we started pre-season preparations early was to ensure we give the young new boys enough time with us”. The Luzira based side commenced training ahead of the upcoming season on 16th July before any other club.
