Richard Luyima

For those who religiously follow and watch the Uganda Super League, you must believe the fact that Richard Luyima is one of the best central midfielders in the league.

His game reading, range of passing, vision and commitment are up there with the best. In our first edition of our new Column dubbed  “KNOW YOUR USL STAR” that will be published every Friday, Ismael Kiyonga unveils him after an exclusive interview.

Get to know him too;

Name: Richard Luyima Mulo.

Date of Birth: 4th/12/1992

Current Club: Proline FC.

Previous Clubs: Kinyara FC and Victors FC.

Club Supported: It’s KCC FC on the local scene and Barcelona internationally simply because of their traditions.

Position: Midfielder.

Shirt No: 5.

Why Shirt No 5: “I first put on Shirt No. 22 when I joined the club but when skipper Musa Mawanda left for US, he told me he had left the club in my hands despite the fact that am not a product of the team’s Academy. He told me that the only way he will get satisfied on the matter is letting me be the heir to his shirt No. 5 to which I laughed off.

A few days after his departure, manager William Bakka called me and said that my new shirt number at the club is 5 and i had no objection. Besides, it reminded me of Real Madrid Legend Zinedine Zidane.”

Favorite Meal: Posho and Peas.

Who inspired you to play football? Striker Yuda Mugalu of KCC FC. “He always gave me a lot of advice and learned a lot from him despite playing in different positions.”

Best Player Played With: Midfielder Noah Ssemakula who recently joined Victoria University from SC Villa. “I played with him at Victors FC and Lugave Clan but I must confess, that lad understands the game.”

Toughest Opponent: Former SC Villa and Cranes midfielder Hakim Magumba. “I have never had it tough like against him. His pace, trickery and vision are awesome. What he lacks in size, God gave it to him in the brain.”

Wheels: No wheels at the moment but my dream Car is a Porsche for it’s confortable and nice look.

Favourite Music: I prefer listening to Country Music especially by Don Williams. Locally, Afrigo Band Music is my favourite.

Best Comedians: Amarula Family and in particular Amooti. I like the way the turn real life happenings into jokes.

In the Next Five Years: My dream is to play professional football and it’s where i have set my targets.
