London Olympics: Suuto finishes 93rd in marathon

It is never easy representing your country at the Olympic Games. For Jane Suuto, she deserves credit. The national record holder was challenged by the down pours at the start and finish but settled for 93rd position in the women’s marathon at the London Olympic Games. Her place was 14 places above the last athlete to complete Ireland’s Jennings Caitriona.
Suuto was 84th at 5km and by half way the race, she had slipped to 102 in 1:27:63. But because of love and passion for her country, she worked her way up the ranks.
Her performance was not worth a medal but at least one to be satisfied with. The 42km were won by Ethiopian Tiki Gelana in a new Olympics record time of 2:23:07. Kenyan Prisca Jeptoo settled for silver while Russian Petrova Arkhipova Tatyana in a new personal best of 2:23:29, took bronze.
1. GELANA Tiki  (Ethiopian) 2:23:07 OR
2. JEPTOO Priscah (Kenya) 2:23:12
3. PETROVA ARKHIPOVA Tatyana (S) 2:23:29
