Saddam Juma Victoria

Ibrahim Saddam Juma is one of the most promising talents we currently anticipate to have in the league next season. He is a product of the famous Kampala Kids League project and one of the best passers of the ball in the Uganda Super League. His one year absence from the local scene following his stint in Vietnam had deprived the league of a midfielder who could use the ball as he wishes with ease.

The former Bunamwaya SC player holds the record for scoring Uganda’s only goal in CHAN final competitions and was also on the score sheet in the All Africa Games for Kobs in Maputo last year.

The star recently signed for newly promoted Victoria University following the expiry of his contract with Bunamwaya. Besides, how much do you know about him? Kawowo Sports’ Ismael Kiyonga unveils him to you in our “Know your USL star” column today. Let’s get started:

Name: Ibrahim Saddam Juma

Date of Birth: 10th/05/1992

Current club: Sports Cub Victoria University

Previous Clubs: Bunamwaya SC (2009-2011) and Sai Gon FC (2011-2012)

Position: Midfield

Shirt No: 15

Why shirt No. 15: I like to put on that jersey number because when i was 15 years, I achieved a lot in my life. It’s at that age that we won everything in Europe while at KKL. The memories of winning the Tivoli and Gothia Cup will forever stick.

Club supported: Locally, I support SC Villa and Barcelona in Europe. For Villa’s case, it’s the club I grew up hearing and as fate would have it; the first super league game I watched involved Villa and Express FC in 2003. My dad took me to the stadium and him being a Villa fan, we enjoyed the game on the Blue side and then developed the love for the club.

For Barcelona, it’s all about their free flowing game.

Who inspired you to play football? My dad and coach Eddie Butindo. From my childhood, dad always encouraged me to play football but then Coach Eddie at KKL made me realise the dream. He is like a father to me and just wish and pray for him to achieve everything he needs in life. He taught me the basics of the game.

Best player played with: That is obviously Denis Guma. There is nothing that beats playing upfront when contented someone is keeping things tight at the back. With him in defence, you are assured of that. Just love being part of the team he is in and am delighted I have met him at Victoria.

Toughest Opponent: I have come up against so many good players but no one comes close to KCC FC’s Ivan Ntege when it comes to giving me hard time. He is one player who will never allow you settle when in possession and hard to beat when the ball is at his feet. His energy and fitness levels make you feel unfit.

Your Idol: This has to be Barcelona and Spanish midfield maestro Xavi Hernandez. I just love the way he does his thing. He plays a simple but perfect game.

Music: I love listening to R n’ B and Hip-hop

Favourite Meal: Posho, beans and chapatti.

Best comedian/practical joker: Afande Kelekele and Daniel Omara always crack my ribs with their jokes.

Wheels: I drive a Toyota Rav4 at the moment but my dream cars are Range Rover Sport and Audi Q8. I just love it sport.

Best T.V Programme: I rarely miss The Hostel and the famous Agataliiko Nfunfu

In the next five years: I want to be playing professional football at a higher level in Europe.

My dream: When I retire from the game, I want to set up a children foundation and help the talented youngsters from poor families.
