PEPSI SCHOOLS’ CRICKET WEEK FINAL
Mwiri 88/8 [53] Kololo 54/4
After five days of enthralling action, a six wicket win over rivals Mwiri helped Kololo Secondary School retain this year’s Pepsi Schools’ Cricket Week crown at Lugogo oval today.
Having met for their last Super Six tie, Mwiri defeated Kololo and heading to toady’s tie, this tournament pinnacle clash was expected to be an exciting one. Mwiri set 88 runs for an eight wicket loss before with skipper Trevor Kapere hitting 39 off 54. Collins Abong added 13 as Kololo’s Isaac Lubega snared three wickets. An unavoidable soggy outfield forced Kololo’s new revised target of 54 runs, a figure they needed in 60 balls.
Mwiri lost it as their fielding earned Kololo 10 extras. The job was finished with eight balls to go after Lubega stroked 12 off 10 accompanied with Joseph Oyet’s 12.
Kololo skipper Rogers Okumu was delighted on the victory. “A great moment for me and my team,” he said. The best players selected for the U-17 national side will have a tour to Dar-es Salaam in December, according body chairman Richard Mwami.
