Zambia vs. Uganda 2013 AFCON Qualifier

Zambia national team skipper Christopher Katongo has warned his team mates not to under rate Uganda Cranes when the two sides meet in the final round of the 2013 AFCON qualifiers.

“Uganda won’t be easy and so nobody should under rate the Cranes. Our first game is at home and we have to keep our record clean. Uganda won’t be easy to deal with but we have

to ensure we go to South Africa and defend our title”, he told the Zambia Daily Mail.

“It will be un acceptable if we fail to qualify for the Nations Cup”, he added.

The skipper who scored the first national team goal at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in a World Cup qualifier against Ghana also confirmed that he will be fit for the game despite reports of nursing a knee injury.

“I am getting better. I will be back in training today (Tuesday) and see what happens but I know I will be fit for Uganda. There is no need to worry”.

Katongo missed last week’s friendly against South Korea but insisted he could have played but didn’t want to risk.

“I could have played in that game but the coach didn’t want to risk too that’s why I was advised not to play. I wish I could have played in that game but I knew the most important game was coming. I know even the friendly game was important but the qualifier is more important”, he concluded.

The two sides clash in the first leg on September 8th at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola before the Cranes host the second leg at Mandela Stadium Namboole on October 12th in Kampala and the winner over two legs earn a slot in South Africa next year.
