He is a player with a lot of potential and at his young age, the future is really ahead of him in case he is not destructed like we have seen it happen with Ugandan players in the past. The U-20 international is one of the most exciting midfielders in the league with the ability to use the ball with efficiency. He creates goals and can as well score them. Last season, his cracker against Victors FC in a league game at Nakivubo was a contender for the super league goal of the season.
Besides, Gift Ali is a born leader and holds the record for the youngest player ever to captain a super league side. At just 16 years of age in 2009, the Old Kampala Secondary School student was the captain of home side Arua Central in the league. He also captained the Hippos until recently when the armband was withdrawn from him and given to Yusuf Mukisa. Kawowo sports Ismael Kiyonga caught up with the Proline play maker and below is the full interview.

Current club: Proline Soccer Academy (2010 – Present)
Previous Clubs: Arua Central (2008 – 2009)
Position: Attacking Midfielder
Shirt number: 7
Why shirt number 7: There is no attachment despite the great players that don this jersey. My dream shirt number is 8. I love German international Bastian Schweisnteiger who dons it at Bayern Munich.
Club supported: Locally, I don’t support any club but internationally, am a Manchester United fan. I developed the love for Man.Utd because while young, I always heard people talk about it and when I started watching the premiership, I fall for it.
Who inspired you to play football? It’s funny but no one did. I just had the love for the game since childhood and decided to take it on. The love for the game is with in me.
My idol: Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure is one player that I really look up to. His playing style, power and determination just amaze me. I want to play like him. However, I also like Barcelona and Spain striker David Villa.
Best player played with: SC Victoria University defender Denis Guma. He is the most complete player I have ever played with. With him on the pitch, you feel a lot of security as a team. He is a fantastic player and one of a kind. He is a rare breed for a defender.
Toughest Opponent: KCC FC’s diminutive midfielder Ivan Ntege is one hell of an opponent. He is tireless and a good tackler. He is one player who has ever marked me out of the entire game.
Favourite meal: Local food and pillau
Favourite Music: R n’ B
Wheels:I don’t drive at the moment but my dream car is currently BMW X5.
Best comedian: Afande Kelekele is in his own class when it comes to that. That guy is the best practical joker I have ever seen.
Best T. V program: I like watching “Blitz” on super sport plus all sports programs on T.V
My biggest dream: I want to play professional football at a higher level where I can earn decent money plus I want to be a regular on the national team.
In the next five years: Five years is too much in my opinion but like I told you, I have started on my journey to become a professional and that’s my target in the next 2-3 years. God willing, am optimistic it will happen.
Thank you so much and wish you the best in the upcoming season.
