Uganda Sports Journalists under their umbrella Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) will on Saturday mark 11 years since the departure of their members who perished in a road accident while from duty on Jinja Road.

Leo Kabunga, Kenneth Matovu, Francis Batte and Simon Peter Ekarot died on August 28th, 2001 at Lugazi while travelling from Jinja to Kampala.

This year’s event to remember the fallen comrades will be held at Busega Round about along Kampala – Masaka

Road. The scribes will involve in various activities including sensitising the road users on how to prevent and control road carnage, a 5-10 km cycling race, a football race and on top of that paint a Zebra Crossing.

According to USPA president Mark Namanya, this year’s event is more than remembering our fallen heroes but find solutions to reducing the number of lives lost in road accidents everyday.

“Every one of us here has ever lost a relative or friend in a road accident. As sports journalists, lets do something however little it may be to curb this problem”, said Namanya.

The scribes have chosen the area since it’s one of the most traffic congested route in the country. Today’s event is sponsored by partners City Tyres and Standard Chartered Bank.
