
Tusker Lager, one of the region’s major sports sponsors have announced a US$450,000 sponsorship deal for this year’s Cecafa Tusker Cup 2012 slated for Kampala from November 24-December 8.
“Cecafa’s mission is too see a team from this region qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations 2013 and we believe Uganda can make further more
we also envision one of our members will qualify for Brazil 2014 World Cup,” Nicholas Musonye,the general secretary of Cecafa said at the unveiling. “I want you to ignore all the information that has been said about this event prior to us coming here.”
Uganda,Sudan,Ethiopia are in contention to qualify for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
The sponsorship was unveiled at a press breakfast at Serena Hotel that was attended by Cecafa general secretary Nicholas Musonye, the Local Organising Committee of the tournament, East African Breweries Marketing Director,Lemmy Mutahi,FUFA vice president technical Livingstone Kyambadde, press men and several EABL officials.
The last two editions of this prestigious East African football tournament have been held in Tanzania and it was agreed that this year’s edition will be held in Uganda.
Mutahi,said the sponsorship package will cover prize money for teams as follows: US$30,000 for the winning team,US$20,000 for the first runner-up and US$10,000 for second runners-up respectively. Uganda Cranes are the defending champions.
