
The Federation of Kenyan Football on Tuesday August 28th unveiled former Morocco and Tunisia Coach Henri Michel as the new Coach of the Kenyan national team Harambe Stars.
The German born Michel replaces Kenyan national Francis Kimanzi at the helm of the national team. “Selecting Michel was an easy decision since he has a lot of experience in African football.
This is a milestone in Kenyan football”, said FKF
Chairman Sam Nyamweya upon unveiling the former France international. On his appointment, Michel showed delight and promised to get good results for the team as long as there is enough support to him.
“Am proud that FKF chose me to be Coach. We have done tìrd of the World Cup qualifiers and the task is hard but i will do my best to get good results. My request is support from the federation, fans, government and the media”, said Michel as quoted by Kenya’s sports website Futaa.com.
The FKF has appointed two foreigners to act as assistants to the French Coach. These are fitness Coach Florent Motta and Samir Ajam and a local assistant in Rangers Head Coach James Nandwa. Former Coach Francis Kimanzi was retained as the technical director of the national team.
Henri Michel’s first real assignment will be in the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup to be hosted by Uganda between November 24th – December 8th. Michel has handled a number of national teams in Africa with Equatorial Guinea which he handled at AFCON 2012 being his latest assignment.
He has handled the Cameroun, Tunisia and Morocco national teams before plus African clubs like Zamalek and Mamelodi Sundowns in Africa. Kenya’s last foreign Coach was German born Antoine Hey whose reign ended in November 2009.
