Reigning Bell Super League midfielder of the year Kizito Luwagga on Monday completed a dream move to Portuguese second division side Leixoes Sports Club. Luwagga who has been featuring for Vipers for the last five years is a living testimony of players whose transfer get complete with seconds to the deadline.
After long fruitless negotiations between Vipers and Leixoes the latter released the midfielder with only five minutes of the 31st August 2012 transfer window. Vipers didn’t reap a penny out of the transfer but stand to gain if Luwaga is sold to another club under the partnership both clubs signed.
Luwaga’s federative rights now belong to Leixoes who are at task to develop and promote the player into a complete professional before he can join higher paid ranks.
“When I came here my size let me down, I complimented it with my skills and hard work. I was eager to prove my worth, am glad I have finally convinced them. There is a lot to learn here and am gonna take this chance with both hands,” Luwagga said on his experience in Portugal.
Luwaga thus becomes the first ever Ugandan player to feature in any Portuguese league. “William (Luwagga) has immense talent and has impressed us, we are keen to signing him and continue developing his attributes as a professional player.” Said Horacio Goncalves the Leixões Coach.
