
Four golfers led on the opening day of action at the 70th edition of the Uganda Open Amateur Golf Championship at the par 72 Kitante Golf Course today.
Former caddie Herbert Kabuye, 42 year old Herbert Benjamin and pre-tournament favourite Philip Kasozi and Happy Robert from Kilembe Golf Club all returned with an even score of 2 under par 70 gross on a sunny day at the 18 hole Uganda Golf Club.
The opening day of action so a tight race going into tomorrow’s second day of action as most golfers enjoyed the course.
This year’s edition has attracted a total of 88 amateur golfers from various clubs around the country. The four day tournament the most prestigious on the Uganda Golf Union calendar reaches a climax on Saturday when a new Open champion will be crown.
Fort Portal’s Abbey Muhumuza returned with a score of one under par 71 gross to remain in sight of the leaders going into tomorrow’s action. Former national captain John Waigo and Richard Baguma had level scores of 72.
The four day tournament is sponsored by East African Breweries Limited under their brand Tusker Malt Lager.
