
The main focus at the final circuit of this year’s Ecobank 7s may draw more attention to the fight for honours but all in surprise, the organisers will have a side from the army grace the day tomorrow at Kyadondo grounds.
They have fielded sides in football, athletics, boxing, kickboxing, netball, handball name it but this time round UPDF is set for their rugby debut this weekend.
UPDF Bombo 7’s Rugby team will play their first game
against Lira Bulls 8.15 at Kyadondo before unleashing rugby the army way against defending champions Heathens at 9am and securiko side G4S Pirates at 10 am pooled with them in group A.
The top three contenders for this year’s Ecobank 7’s championship title MTN Heathens 64, DMark Kobs 56 and Toyota Buffaloes 52 in that order will be vying for the top slot.
Kobs will be hunting for their first win against Heathens who have only lost a game in the entire series to Buffaloes. With the race still close any of the top three contenders could still be crowned champion when the final circuit ushers in tomorrow morning on two venues Kyadondo and Kampala legends grounds but all finals will be held at Kyadondo Rugby club.
“Ecobank is proud to be associated with the Rugby 7’s series and is determined to contribute to the growth of the sport in Uganda apart from boosting the financial development of the country,” Ecobank Managing Director Micheal Monari said while handing Uganda Rugby Union’s (URU) Jacob Bukenya the last package for the final circuit at Ecobank offices
The sponsors will be giving away prizes to winners and account openers at the final circuit.
