The Uganda Rugby Union has struck a sponsorship deal with Nile Special and Rwenzori Bottling Company making them the official sponsors of the Uganda Cup which will run for three weeks starting from the September 29th to the October 13th.
This was revealed at a press briefing yesterday during which Nile special’s commitment to this year’s special edition of the Uganda Cup was affirmed by the brand manager Timothy Kayondo.
This year’s tournament is nation-wide different from previous encounters which featured two teams, and so the sponsors are more optimistic with promoting their brands further.
Nile has injected in 45 million as sponsorship package where as Rwenzori Bottling Company has also committed 10 million, sizeable portion of which will cater for the nationwide clubs who will tussle for the shield title.
“This being the jubilee year, we’ve decided to make this a special edition of Uganda Cup. This year we want this tournament to be more like a celebration of Rugby in the country. The entire nation is a celebratory mood and so should the Rugby fraternity” said Timothy Kayondo the brand manager of Nile special.
Participating teams in the upper case include Defending Champion D’mark Kobs, previously dubbed UTL Kobs and have won the tournament for the last three years in a row, pungent rivals MTN Heathens who have dominated Rugby this year, G4S pirates, Toyota Buffaloes, XFM impis, Rhino, Sadolin Mongers and Summer-Kamp and in the lower case having teams like Stallions, Lira Bulls, Rams, Gulu, Boks, Engsol Tigers, Mbale Elephants and Nile.
Suggested grounds are likely to include Gulu Rugby grounds, Makerere Rugby grounds Lira Rugby grounds Kyadondo rugby grounds Entebbe rugby ground and Kampala rugby grounds.
