Alfred ‘Blacksheep’ Gumikiriza has vowed to go ahead and win the Kampala Open to prove that the national title he won last month was not a one-off. He was speaking on Thursday at victory party organized in his honor by the Pool Association of Ugadna and sponsors Nile Special. “I have a challenge to prove critics wrong, and am certain I will come out on top again,” said Blacksheep.

“It’s never easy but since I won the most prestigious title in Ugandan I have never rested, which puts me in a better position to claim the second biggest title in the land,” he added. The 26 year old defeated Amos Ndyagumanawe 6-4 in the final at Lugogo in August and he is currently the country’s top seed. The Kampala Open gets underway on September 29 at Planet Sports in Nalya.

Sula Matovu the player Blacksheep as dethroned as top seed holds the title. “Matovu is not a bad player, but like I said I have a point to prove and am hungry for more glory,” he added. Matovu was one of the favorite to lift this year’s Nile Special Open but failed to make it past the first round.
