Tornado Cricket Club moved to 30 points atop the women’s T20 Mehta Premier League log after outwitting Wanderers by 36 runs and eight wickets at the University oval in Kyambogo on Saturday.
Gloria Adubu (37) and Franklyn Najjumba (22) were superb as the Concy Aweko-led side set 91 for a nine wicket loss in 20 overs. Wanderers were all out for 55 in 18.4 overs with only skipper Mary Nanderenga (19) reaching double digits.
In the afternoon, bowlers Carol Nansubuga (3/3), Najjumba (2/1) and Aweko (2/10) did the damage as Wanderers’ batting order collapsed at 38 runs with Nanderenga stroking the highest figure of 7. Adubu’s 14 and Najjumba’s 13 runs gave Tornado a second win in just nine overs. “The title is now in our reach but we have to keep on doing our best,” Aweko remarked in delight of the double victory.
At the Gayaza grounds, the hosts remained winless as they suffered four and seven wicket losses to defending champions Charity Trust Fund.
