Swimmers will be eyeing accolades as Uganda celebrates 50 years of Independence tomorrow at Kampala International School of Uganda in Kamwokya as they host the 11th Excel Insurance Independence Swimming gala.
The one day swimming gala has attracted over 12 schools and clubs to this year’s event that was unveiled at the sponsors head office on Jinja road by David Walakira, the managing director of the company together with Uganda Swimming Federation general secretary Peter Mugisha and other officials of the sponsors.
“We are proud to be associated with this major swimming event for the 11th year running which comes as Uganda is celebrating 50 years of independence,” Walakira said. “I am making a passionate plea to government to give this fast growing sport support.”
Last year’s winners International School of Uganda will have to stave off the hosts KISU and another swimming giant Aga Khan School together with swimming clubs like Dolphins,Sharks and several other leading clubs.
The one day swimming gala will see swimmers taking part in 40 swimming events with individual winners in various age groups and the open swimming competition.
USF is using this event to identify new swimmers for this year’s Uganda Invitational swimming championships due in December.
