In commemoration of Uganda’s 50 years of independence from the British, local body Uganda Hockey Association (UHA) will hold an Independence tournament at Lugogo hockey AstroTurf this weekend.
Already 10 teams have confirmed to take part in the event unlike last year’s eight. Among the teams include three schools Mt. St. Mary’s Namagunga, St. Mary’s College Kisubi and Kakungulu Memorial.
The schools’ turn up is an improvement from last year
where only King’s college Budo participated. But unfortunately, they won’t be participating this year, according to UHA publicist Jackie Namyalo. “We are hoping to have two more teams before the tourney gets underway,” she said.
Meanwhile, in the men’s national hockey league standings, Wanaichi lead the table with 18 points, while Weatherhead and Kampala are tied on eight points.
